Culture-loaded expressions are frequently used in Chinese ceremonial and ritual speeches and pose a major challenge to interpreters because of their high-level of implicitness.Based on the review of two assignments, three problems are identified concerning culture-loaded expression resulting from inadequate attention on their rich cultural and contextual implications. The problems fall into three categories including quotations from Chinese classics, political terms and change of lexical meaning by the context.Hall's distinction between high and low-context culture highlights the importance of context in communication.Since interpreting is an act of intercultural communication, presenting the rich cultural and contextual implications of culture-loaded expressions is necessary to deliver sound communication effects. From the perspective of HC and LC theory, three coping tactics are proposed including prefabricated chunks, paraphrasing and making adjustments to lexical meaning based on context.Besides,off-line improvements are prerequisite for the flexible use of coping tactics.Effective exercises and activities are recommended in terms of language and knowledge enhancement. With elaborate case study, this paper is dedicated to offering useful suggestions on rendering culture-loaded expressions.
