A Practice Report On Consecutive Interpreting For The Seminar Course On Eco-resources Development For Eastern ASEAN Growth Area In 2017

The author was honored to provide consecutive interpretation service for the Seminar on Eco-Resources Development for Eastern ASEAN Growth Area in 2017.The report covers the essence of the assignment,including pre-interpreting preparation,task description,cases analysis and final summary.This seminar was a foreign-aid project sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the State and was undertaken by Guangxi International Business Vocational College.It aimed to meet the needs of the rapid development of economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN countries,and to further promote exchanges between the two sides in the development of ecological resources and China-ASEAN free trade.The author was mainly responsible for the interpretation of two seminar courses: “Chinese Health Preservation Culture and Tourism” and “the Status Quo of Mineral Resources in Guangxi”,and this report is mainly about the former one.Before the task,the author searched a lot of background information about health preservation in China and compiled the related glossary lists in Chinese and English according to the PPT obtained three days before the task.Referring to a study of Liaison Interpreter's Subjectivity Consciousness of Ren Wen and Daniel Gill's effort model,this paper analyzed the mediation role of the interpreter and how to reasonably allocate energy in partially improvisational speeches.The coping tactics,such as supplement explanation,omission,logic combing,predicting and paraphrasing,were illustrated in this report.In the course of the interpreting,the author exerted a positive interference and processed original speeches with flexibility.After interpreting,the problems in the interpretation were singled out for analysis,and the suggestions for improvement were put forward.The report concludes with a summary of the importance of pre-interpreting preparation and the necessity of post-interpreting review.The purpose of this practical report is to improve the interpreter's own ability.It also hopes to provide some reference for other practitioners of conference interpretation.
