With world economy in long-term depression and anti-globalization emerging,China proposed the Belt and Road initiative in compliance with the time,hoping to work jointly with all nations to create win-win scenario and common prosperity and promote the recovery of world economy.Chapter 5 of Though the Silk Road,mainly presented as conversations in the interview,introduces the background,reason,effect,influence,and implementation of the Belt and Road initiative,and reveals its relations with the ancient Silk Road as well.As a book for international publicity,its translation is not only helpful in publicizing China's economic and political policies,but also in disseminating Chinese culture worldwide.The report is a reflection on the translation of Chapter 5 of Though the Silk Road.The source text about the “Belt and Road” initiative aims to convey a friendly massage to the world,so that more countries understand and join in our effort.In order to achieve better publicity effect,with the theory of Medio-translatology as guiding principle,the author adopts the translation strategy of modification and Communicative translation.Based on the difference between Chinese and English language,the author employed various translation skills in the transformation process such as addition,omission,conversion of voice and part of speech,alteration of the subject of a sentence,deletion of unnecessary nouns or category words and so on.The translation is expected to convey the original information in a more complete and accurate way,to eliminate the cultural barriers for easier comprehension for target readers,and to keep the sentence smooth and readable,altogether enhancing its readability.This translation report mainly includes five parts: the first part is a brief introduction to the translation practice,including background information,literature review and overall structure of the report;the second part presents the pre-translation process,including an introduction to the book and its author,analysis of the text type,linguistic and stylistic features of the source text,and tools used in the translation;the third part introduces the theoretical framework,including Professor Xie Tianzhen's Medio-translatology,Newmark's Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation Theory,and their application in this translation practice;the fourth part is the case studies,which introduces the translation skills applied in the translation from the perspective of differences between Chinese and English languages;in the fifth part,the author summarizes the experience and deficiency in the translation practice,and at the same time points out suggestions for future improvement as a professional translator.
