With the emergence and rapid development of Internet of things,cloud computing and new generation of mobile Internet technology,which provide the conditions for learners to learn knowledge anytime and anywhere.The contemporary college students are the "natives" of the information technology products.As a new way of learning,M-Learning is favored by college students.During accepting new things,they also have reasonable expectations of M-Learning.As a new way of learning,M-Learning also brings opportunities for the reform of College English,and provides a new direction for College English teaching and learning.Needs analysis is the premise of English teaching activities.Only after we have made objective needs analysis,we can set up right English teaching goals,develop proper English curricula,so as to cultivate talents who can meet social English needs.This study bases on a large number of literature,clarifies the present situation of domestic and foreign countries of M-Learning and need analysis as well as summarizing the concept and characteristics of M-Learning and need analysis.Based on Chenbingbing(2010)College English needs analysis model and Wang Haixiao et al.(2004)the individualized College English Teaching Syllabus model,the questionnaire “English M-Learning Needs of Non-English Majors” is designed,and three normal universities in Guangxi of 416 Non-English majors and 15 College English teachers conducted a questionnaire survey in order to explore the Non-English Majors' English M-Learning motivation needs,skill needs,process needs and resource needs.After examination,the questionnaire has good reliability and validity,which draws some valuable conclusionsbased on interviews with students and text analysis later.Then the author interviews College English teachers in order to know the Non-English Majors' English proficiency and teachers' expectations of the students and their views on M-Learning.Through the above ways of collecting data,we made an objective and comprehensive analysis of the needs of Non-English Majors' English M-Learning,hoping to answer the following research questions.(1)What are the overall status of students' English M-Learning needs?(2)Is there any significant difference between different gender,grade and major?(3)What are students' needs for College English assisted by M-Learning?Based on the results of the research,the following conclusions can be drawn.(1)Students have high need for English M-Learning now.Among four dimensions,the highest score is in skill needs dimension,and students are very eager to improve their English skills by M-Learning.In the aspect of M-Learning resource needs,students like diverse learning resources and expect English M-Learning resources to be updated constantly.However,in terms of motivation needs,most of the students' English M-Learning motivation is instrumental motivation,which means that they have little interest in learning English and lack of intrinsic learning motivation.(2)There are significant differences in some items for M-Learning among students of different gender,grades and majors.The need of female,non-normal major and freshman is higher than that of male,normal major and other grades.(3)Students and teachers have high need for interactive in the process of M-Learning.Students want to interact with teachers and students in the process of learning and get timely feedback.Based on the above analysis,the author puts forward some relevant suggestions:(1)Building College English education cloud platform and setting up relevant monitoring and feedback models.(2)Leading college students to set up the concept of English M-Learning as well as guiding them to learn English via M-Learning effectively.(3)Selecting the authority and quality resources to meet students' individual English M-Learning needs.(4)Exploring College English courses assisted by M-Learning to stimulate the internal motivation of students' English learningM-Learning is to be unfolding,which is lack of platform for non-English majors,the related learning software need to be more perfect,and the present M-Learning situation of students is more spontaneous and cannot satisfy their diverse learning needs.Based on the need analysis of Non-English majors,this research helps to develop the interactive M-Learning system that meets the expectations of the students,and designs English M-Learning courses and resources that meet the needs of the teachers and students.In a word,M-Learning,as a new way of English learning,complies with the needs of social development,but its system construction and curriculum development still need to be explored.The author hopes that the research data can be used to provide the basis for the application of the software for English M-Learning.
