Research And Method Design Of Teaching Chinese Characters By Skype For Beginner Level Ukrainian Students

With the development of multimedia technology,distance learning and video teaching became main ways for learners to get information,and currently are among the most popular teaching methods for students.In last two years online classes became a very important teaching tool in online education,even forming a promising industry.Many teachers use video chat tools to teach Chinese online.For instance,the most popular teaching platform is Skype networking software.The thesis structure is mainly divided into 6 parts: the first part introduces the background,purpose and methods of the research.Additionally,the overlook of the research field status of distance education is given,as well as the application and characteristics introduction of Skype.In the second part,reasons and common needs in the learning process of characters through Skype has been examined on Ukrainian students.The results show that most learners want to study in China,so improving their Chinese characters is their basic demand.Furthermore,the author analyses the basic requirements of teachers and students and the importance of the teaching resources choice.The third part introduces the design of Skype Chinese character teaching course for beginner level Ukrainian students.In order to study the process and effect of the course,an online teaching experiment was conducted in October and November,2017 through the Skype platform.Two students in Ukraine took 10 special online classes of60 basic Chinese characters.The fourth part describes the final test that was given to students to analyze the effect of Skype Chinese character teaching,thus the feedback was received.The results show that in such a short period of time the learners can memorize 60 Chinese characters and learn how to use them,to make simple sentences and express their ideas.In the fifth part,we introduce advantages and disadvantages of Skype online teaching method,and provide suggestions for the future improvements.The sixth part is the conclusion.Through certain teaching practice,the author thinks that learning Chinese characters via Skype is more convenient and can reduce the level of difficulty to a certain extent.After mastering basic Chinese characters,students will be more willing to learn Chinese language and its culture.However,the Chinese and Ukrainian languages belong to a completely different language system.Due to this fact,it is difficult for students to use the letters of the East Slavic language to master the letters of the Chinese and Tibetan Languages.Therefore,Chinese characters are the focus ofChinese teaching process,and it is also a difficult point for many Ukrainian learners.The usage of available teaching resources for online teaching of Chinese characters is a problem worth of further research and discussion.
