Eco-translatology provides a new perspective for translation studies. This theory reconsiders translation by integrating theories in ecology into translation studies, and holds that translators,on the one hand, are components of the translation ecosystem, subject to the law of “survival of the fittest”;and on the other hand, occupy the central position in the translation ecosystem and dominate the operation and development of the ecosystem.According to this theory, translation is the accumulation of multi-dimensional selective adaptation and adaptive selection by the translators in the translation ecosystem, mainly from the linguistic, communicative and cultural dimensions.Interpretation is a special kind of translation, hence the theories in eco-translatology are also applicable to the interpreting studies.Based on the analysis of the transcription of the NPC & CPPCC Press Conference in 2017,this thesis applies eco-translatology into interpreting studies, and aims at exploring and verifying the interpreter's role in the interpreting ecosystem, and probes how the interpreter performed her leading role as well as the significance to the interpreting ecosystem.Through the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the transcription of this Press Conference, this thesis verifies the interpreter's leading role in the interpreting ecosystem mainly from aspects such as the ecological aesthetics, adaptation and selection, survival of the fittest as well as responsibility of the interpreter, etc. Results also show that the interpreter performed her leading role under the constraints such as the law of “survival of the fittest”,the mechanism of “pre-event prevention” and “post-event penalty” and factors like the interpreter's responsibility, etc.During this process, the interpreter,as the “producer” in this ecosystem, whose production not only satisfies the demands of the speakers, listeners and the interpreter herself, but also facilitates the sound operation of the whole interpreting ecosystem, and furthermore, may provide important materials for interpreting or translation studies.
