The Circulating Of Kuang Tung Pidgin English And Its Convergence In Contemporary Cantonese

Since the modern western colonialists entered China,Guangzhou made an accelerated development of foreign trade,the Chinese and Westerners urgently need a tool for exchanging information,and because the Qing government claimed that Chinese people could not learn foreign language and could not teach foreigners Mandarin,so here came a new English-Chinese mixed language--that is Pidgin English.At first,KuangTung Pidgin English was formed by the combination of Guangzhou's Cantonese and English,which was the only medium language for communication between Chinese and foreign countries at that time.Up to now,Canton Pidgin English still affects Cantonese culture.Part of the Canton Pidgin English has been unconsciously absorbed into Cantonese.We can see the non-negligible function that verbal communication plays in the cross-cultural communication between China and western countries.At present,there are few detailed and specific studies on the influence of Canton Pidgin English on Cantonese,especially its diachronic process and synchronicity transmission characteristics.Therefore,this article combines the related theories of the mass communication,the semiotics and the linguistics,it will conduct the analysis in five chapters.First,it gives a brief introduction about the background and significance of the topic,literature review,research methods and innovative ideas.The second chapter elaborates the diachronic transmission route of KuangTung Pidgin English,which originated in Macau,developed in Guangzhou,matured in Shanghai and continued in Hong Kong respectively.The third chapter studies the transmission characteristics of KuangTung Pidgin English,and sums up its strong dialect pronunciation habits and grammar,easily confused and simplified pronunciation,small vocabulary but a much wider reference.The fourth chapter is based on the collection of the existing common KuangTung Pidgin English vocabulary,and compares with its ancient and modern differences,combined with the in-depth interview method to investigate the synchronicity transmission that KuangTung Pidgin English makes in Cantonese.Finally,this paper sums up the social factors and significance of the spread of Canton Pidgin English,and hopes that this study will provide a reference value for the study of language fusion and communication.
