A Report On The Translation Of Provisions For The Supervision Of Medical Device Distributing And Provisions For Investigation And Prosecution To Illegal Behavior On Network Food Safety

During the four-month internship from March 1st to June 30 th,2017 in Beijing Codex Translation Co.Ltd.(Wuhan branch),the translator was assigned to translate Provisions for the Supervision of Medical Device Distributing(Order No.8 of China Food and Drug Administration)and Provisions for Investigation and Prosecution to Illegal Behavior on Network Food Safety(Order No.27 of China Food and Drug Administration)by a project manager.The project plays a significant role in enhancing the efficiency of translators of the company,i.e.after quality control the project has been added into terminology bank and database,as well as training files of Codex.The translation practice is mainly the analysis and explanation on obstacles on the way of translation,except for the whole process and limitations.It is through the practice that the translator comes to realize the great importance of the application of theory.It is expected that the case analysis could throw out a minnow to catch a whale for upcoming legal translation and study.The two source texts are legal orders,so it is nothing but legal translation.They provide provisions in a highly concise approach with strong logic.Besides its extreme professionalism,polysemy and synonyms show up from time and time.And syntactically,they are featured with long and complicated prepositives,and verb-omitted structures.Therefore,the practice sets a high standard for the source texts' professionalism,preciseness,accuracy and equivalence.J.C.Catford's theory of translation shifts has a clear definition and object classification,which would trigger inspirations in non-literary translation.Under its instruction,considering textual characteristics and translating difficulties,the practice analyzes level shifts,class shifts and structural shifts lexically and grammatically.Last but not the least,the translator summarizes limitations as well.Regrets still exist in the pick of wording and phrasing,despite the translator has contributed full efforts in equivalence between the source and target texts.Whereas,it is such limitations that reminds the translator to stay hungry and stay foolish.
