The late Qing Dynasty and the early period of the Republic of China were not only the transition period from traditional education to new-style education in China’s education,but also a critical period for exploration and development of new-style education in China.In this period,the establishment and development of many new schools have played an active role in the progress of China modern education and society.Baoding Private Yude Middle School,founded in the late Qing,is a middle school,set a noble character,a strong body,rich knowledge of science and culture,and a full-scale development as an educational goal and“not perfunctory and not cheating” as the fundamental motto,in order to achieve “Education Save the Country”.In the mid period of Republic of China,Yude Middle School was fully developed: in terms of development scale,the facilities are advanced and updated,and the school continued to expand;in teaching performance,the outstanding achievements made Yude share the reputation,“Wen Nankai,Li Yude”,with Nankai Middle School,culturing a lot of talents for the society;in the aspect of social influence,Yude Middle School is the cradle of Hebei Early Youth Movement.The Hebei Branch of the Chinese United League and the first Party organization in Baoding were established in Yude.Proletarian revolutionaries,such as Liu Shaoqi,Li Weihan,and Li Fuchun,were educated in the preparatory class for work-study-in-France in Yude,and promoted the development of the National Revolutionary Movement,becoming one of the most influential middle schools in North China.Baoding Private Yude Middle School is a typical representative of the famous high schools in the Republic of China.Through the unique teaching method and activity,Yude has cultivated political,scientific,and cultural and many other talents contributed to the development of China society,occupying an important position in the history of China modern education and revolution.The study of Baoding Private Yude Middle School not only has important academic value to explore the development of middle school education in the Baoding region during the period of the Republic of China but also has a significant reference value for the development of current middle school education and training of all-around talents.
