The reform of higher vocational education has been done for more than ten years.Though it has achieved a lot,higher vocational education still existed some problems.With the reform of system,the fierce competition for students and the advance of human society and the rapid developments of social economy,it opposed higher requirements for graduates.In order to meet the social demands for talents,adapt to society and the healthy development of higher vocational colleges,higher vocational colleges should further deepen the reform.Public English is a public compulsory course for all non-English majors.it plays an important role in the reform of education in higher vocational colleges.So we should pay more attention to the healthy development of public English.However,the current situation of public English teaching is unsatisfactory.The goal of public English teaching is not clear,the teaching quality is low,and the teaching material can not meet the needs of the students.The construction of teaching materials is slow.The constructure of the curriculum is unreasonable,teaching management is loose,there is a serious shortage of teachers,the examination system needs to be improved,and the second English classroom is not active.All these are not conducive to the healthy development of public English.Therefore,vocational colleges must deepen the reform to improve the teaching quality of public English and to train a number of complex talents who understand technology and have high quality for the society.On the basis of careful study of constructivism theory and humanism theory,this paper sums up the experience of more than ten years' work in higher vocational colleges.A questionnaire survey was conducted among 323 students of six different majors in Yang Ling Vocational and Technical College in 2016,and a dozen colleagues in their English teaching and research department and more than 20 English teachers in their brother colleges were interviewed face to face.This paper puts forward some effective reform measures on the main problems in the teaching of public English in higher vocational education,that is,Teachers should be encouraged to change their educational ideas,establish a new teaching mode of "student-centered",and let students become the real masters of the classroom.we should cultivate students to form a good habit of independent learning,set up the concept of lifelong learning.On the other hand,teachers also We should explore actively and adopt flexible and diverse teaching methods to stimulate students' learning enthusiasm and initiative.In order to balance the ratio between teachers and students,vocational colleges and universities should make great efforts to strengthen the construction of teaching staff,and take occupation and employment as the guidance,and strive to cultivate students' vocational ability and accomplishment,which reflects the practicability and professionalism of vocational education.Only by establishing a well-trained and excellent teaching team can we guarantee the smooth implementation of the teaching reform.In order to create a good atmosphere for students to learn English,higher vocational colleges should extensively open up the second classroom teaching of English,and establish a diversified evaluation mechanism,not only in form but also in content.To be diversified,we should combine summative evaluation,formative evaluation and developmental evaluation to form complementary advantages to stimulate the enthusiasm and creativity of teachers and students and to improve the teaching quality of public English teaching.After deepening the reform of public English teaching,it has become effective.But to achieve the intended purpose of the reform,we'll have a long way to go.
