Entering the 21st century,the world economic globalization has become a trend.Under the traditional general English teaching,the students who are trained single knowledge base cannot meet the needs of society,the market needs a large number of applied talents,that is,familiar with professional business and have strong foreign language communication skills.In order to adapt to the new trend of economic globalization,our universities and colleges gradually began to pay close attention to professional English teaching.The practical application ability became the core of professional English teaching,which is also the core of higher vocational English education,but higher vocational English education pays more attention to the cultivation of practical ability of language.The integration of professional English teaching into higher vocational English teaching can highlight its practicality and professional practice;especially it can highlight the characteristics of higher vocational English and meet the higher level of open economy development needs.Therefore,professional English in higher vocational education must be reformed.Based on the theories of demand analysis and language teacher learning,the essay conducts questionnaire survey and interviews with some students and professional English teachers in Yangling Vocational and Technical College.The purpose of this paper is to understand the teaching situation of professional English and to discuss the problems of the teaching quality affecting professional English in higher vocational colleges,and to put forward the reform measures.Although the investigation is an individual study,it reflects the common problems of professional English teaching in higher vocational colleges.The survey results show that the major problems of professional English teaching in higher vocational colleges are reflected in several aspects,such as teaching objectives,curriculum,teaching materials,teachers,teaching methods and assessment.Meanwhile,the main causes of the problems are also analyzed.By contrasting the experience of foreign professional English teaching,this paper puts forward the reform strategy of professional English teaching in higher vocational education:clarifying the orientation of the curriculum;curriculum setting adopts a new mode of comprehensive ability of language+specialty+practice;teaching materials should emphasize the main line of the project;strengthening professional English teachers training;establishing diversified and process of professional English teaching evaluation system.Combining the professional English teaching with higher vocational English teaching to meet the trend of globalization of market economy with skilled talents and professional talents.
