The Study On Set-limited Adverb "Dingduo" In Modern Chinese

This thesis makes a systematic study of adverb “Dingduo” which is used frequently in modern Chinese,defines the “Dingduo” as “set-limited adverb”,analyzes the type of “quantity” defined by “Dingduo” and the appropriate context of “Dingduo”,and by comparing with the set-limited adverb “Zuiduo” which is similar in meaning and usage with “Dingduo”,further analyzes the using environment and the using inclination of “Dingduo”.On the one hand,the studying on the adverb “Dingduo” can enrich the case study of set-limited word,on the other hand,it can provide reference for the study of other adverbs in modern Chinese.The first chapter is the introduction,including the origin of the topic,research status,research methods and corpus sources.The second chapter is the type of “quantity” defined by “Dingduo”.Firstly,according to whether the meaning of “Dingduo” points the specific quantitative component,this chapter divided the quantity of “Dingduo” into “specific quantity” and “abstract quantity”,and then according to the semantic feature of the quantity,this chapter divided the “specific quantity” and “abstract quantity” into four small classes separately.The third chapter is the appropriate context of “Dingduo”.According to the degree of irrealis of “Dingduo” in the context,this chapter divided the context of “Dingduo” into irrealis context,including inferential context,estimating context,willing context,and habitual context between realis and irrealis,and realistic narrative context,and then analyzes the type of “quantity” defined by “Dingduo” in different kinds of context,and on this basis we concluded the contextual distribution of different types of quantity which is defined by “Dingduo”.And from the semantic perspective,we explains the reason of different distribution in this chapter.The fourth chapter is the comparison of “Dingduo” and “Zuiduo”.This chapter compared “Dingduo” and “Zuiduo” from four aspects,including the certainty of the quantity,the type of "quantity" defined by adverb,the subjective inclination,the stylistic distribution,and through the comparison,it demonstrated the subjective characteristics of “Dingduo” in the set-upper-limited expression.Finally,the thesis summarizes the main viewpoints of the paper,as well as the innovations and inadequacy.
