A Translation Report On The E-C Translation Of The Yellow Envelope:One Gift,Three Rules,and A Life-Changing Journey Around The World(Chapters 14-17)

With the development of economy,many changes have taken place in people's consumption concepts and living demand,which makes tourism a widespread recreational way of life.As one of the important types of travel literature,travel notes help to promote cultural communication,broaden people's horizons and enrich spiritual dimensions.The Yellow Envelope:One Gift,Three Rules,and a Life-Changing Journey Around the World,published in April,2017,written by Kim Dinan,a freelance writer of America,mainly describes the author's travel experience and insight in several countries,including Ecuador,Peru,India,Nepal,Indonesia,and so on.In recent years,Chinese people have become more and more addicted to outbound travel,therefore,the translation of the source text can help people know more about various cultures and provide an insight into different life styles and thinking modes.This thesis consists of the translation practice of 16,000 English words and a translation report based on the translation practice.The source text of the translation practice is selected from the The Yellow Envelope:One Gift,Three Rules,and a Life-Changing Journey Around the World(Chapters14-17).The translation report mainly covers:the introduction of the background,purpose and significance of the translation practice;the introduction of the source text and the author;the difficulties in translating and relevant solutions.These difficult points involves the understanding of cultural implication,analysis of participle structures and fulfillment of the aesthetics,which requires the translator to consolidate English grammatical rules and expand relevant background knowledge.In the process of translating,guided by Nida's functional equivalence,the translator mainly adopts such translation techniques as amplification,conversion and division so as to achieve fluent and coherent target text.Through this translating practice,the translator strengthens the understanding of translation theory and translation techniques.By applying theory into practice,the translator enhances her translating ability.Besides,as far as the translation of travel notes is concerned,the translator is supposed to enrich background information and have an extensive reading of parallel texts in order to achieve faithfulness and expressiveness of the target text.
