With the deepening of international exchanges,there is an increasing demand for translating subtitles of teaching video series.However,the existing literature only focuses on the subtitle translation of films and TV shows and rarely emphasizes that of teaching video series.In the thesis,based on the Chinese-English subtitle translation of Zhu Baohua – Hulusi,the author discussed the difficulties and strategies in translating subtitles of teaching video series.It is hoped that the thesis will somewhat support translators in translating such kind of subtitles with increased translation quality and efficiency.The thesis begins with an introduction to three major features of teaching video series subtitles including understandability,professionalism and systematization,which leads to three difficulties in translating such subtitles covering time-space constraints,term translation and consistency maintenance.In the end,the author came up with three strategies in translating subtitles of teaching video series: first,omission and interpretive translation should be used to make the target text simple and easy to understand.Omission can be applied to remove repetitive parts and some cultural factors as well as those easy to be expressed by images;second,existing materials familiar to the target audience such as websites and books should be used to translate technical terms in the video accurately;third,translation glossary and style guide should be established to increase the consistency in the target text and maintain its systematization.
