Among the fastest-growing segments of the language services industry,post-edited machine translation brings advantages of translation efficiency produced by machines and translation quality produced by humans, meeting the growing demands of the language services industry. However, many translators who have little post-editing experience find it guideless to revise machine translation output, and even more time has to be spent on postediting than on translating source texts. This thesis selects translation projects of the United Nations website content and UN Chronicle as a case study to research post-editing guidelines that can be practiced by translators to improve translation efficiency while ensuring translation quality. This thesis researches post-editing guidelines published by Translation Automation User Society from four aspects, namely, semantics, information, syntax and logic, punctuation and formatting.By comparisons of machine translation output and post-edited translation, the following practicable post-editing guidelines are concluded: Ensure semantically correct translation by correcting terminology translation and choosing contextdependent semantic meanings;Ensure that no information has been accidentally added or omitted;Ensure syntactically and logically correct translation by changing parts of speech, restructuring sentences, and clarifying pronoun references and other textual connections;Apply basic rules regarding punctuation and ensure that formatting is correct.
