With the development of China's economy and the continuous improvement of people's living standards,Nigeria is no exception to the rapid growth of demand for Chinese language learning in the world.Nigeria is one of the earliest countries to establish Confucius Institutes in Africa.The total number of Chinese learners in two Confucius Institutes in Nigeria is more than 10,000.However,there are still some irregularities in the teaching and learning of Chinese,which deserves further investigation and study.This paper mainly investigates and analyzes the acquisition of Chinese characters by the students of Confucius Institute of Lagos University in Nigeria,investigates their attitudes towards learning Chinese characters,their learning styles,the application of Chinese characters in daily life and the difficulties in learning Chinese characters,and so on,in order to find out the problems they have in the process of acquiring Chinese characters.In order to put forward practical suggestions for the teaching practice of Chinese characters.In order to achieve this goal,the author designed a questionnaire for the junior and middle stage students of Confucius Institute in Lagos,Nigeria,and collected 40 valid questionnaires from 50 questionnaires.The survey has two parts.The first part includes the personal information survey of the students of Confucius Institute of Lagos University and the fact-finding survey of Chinese character learning.The survey of Chinese character learning is divided into four parts: the first part is the study of their attitude and feelings towards Chinese character learning;the second part is the study of their key difficulties in learning Chinese characters;the third part is the study of their Chinese character memory strategies;the fourth part is the application of their Chinese characters strategies and suggestions.The purpose of the survey is to understand the current situation of Chinese characters mastered by the students of Confucius Institute of Lagos University in the junior and middle stages of Chinese language learning,analyze the difficulties in the process of learning Chinese characters,and put forward the teaching strategies of Chinese characters suitable for junior middle school students.The personal information survey of students in the Confucius Institute of Lagos University included: gender,age,mother tongue and time spent learning Chinese.Chinesecharacter learning is the focus of this questionnaire.It mainly examines the difficulties encountered by students from Nigeria in learning Chinese characters,their attitudes towards learning Chinese characters,and the memory methods and strategies used in learning Chinese characters.The second part of the questionnaire is the Chinese Character Test,a survey of the components of Chinese characters.The questionnaire consists of three parts with six questions.The first part is related to the basic stroke and stroke order of Chinese characters;the second part is to investigate their understanding and mastery of the structure of Chinese characters.The third part is to examine their cognition and mastery of Chinese characters.These three parts are to investigate the Lagos University Confucius Institute students' understanding and mastery of the components of Chinese characters,laying the foundation for the next multi-angle analysis of students' learning situation.According to the results of the first and second parts of the questionnaire,the author made statistics on the basic situation of students' mastery of Chinese characters and the actual situation of their mastery of the components of Chinese characters in the Confucius Institute of Lagos University,and further analyze some problems existing in students' learning of Chinese characters.On this basis,a Chinese character teaching strategy suitable for students' learning was put forward.The third chapter is about the findings and recommendations of the investigation and analysis of Confucius Institutes in Nigeria,including recommendations for teachers,students,and textbook editors.The survey found that most Nigerian students do not like learning Chinese characters very much,but they also expressed willingness to learn because they like learning Chinese.Although Chinese characters are strange to them,they are still full of mystery.Most students think Chinese characters are more difficult,but they can be mastered through hard work.The difficulty of Chinese character learning is due to the differences and differences in students' cultural backgrounds.The main way Nigerian students learn Chinese characters is in the classroom,most people can take notes in Chinese characters;most students will spend about1-2 hours after class to review Chinese characters,and to do so actively.They use "repetitivereading and writing" to memorize Chinese characters.Few people can make regular plans and goals for learning Chinese characters.
