English,enjoying a unique position in the world,is an important medium for worldwide people to communicate.English: One Tongue,Many Voices takes historical development as clue,comprehensively discusses the English in the past,present and future.This report researches on the translation of the first part of English: One Tongue,Many Voices.This report has four parts.The first part introduces the translated text and the authors,the purpose and significance of the translation practice.The second part introduces the process of translation,including the preparation work,translation difficulties,translating process and translation issues ahead.The third part illustrates the intertextuality in translation practice respectively from the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.The fourth part summarizes the translation practice.This report proves that when translating texts from different cultural perspectives,the theory of intertextuality not only makes the author's intention more accurate,but also allows the readers to break the cultural barriers and resonate with the author.Viewing the source text and target text as intertexts,the theory of intertextuality is adopted to deal with the cultural differences in translation,which aims to make the history of English under western cultural background more accessible to the Chinese readers under oriental cultural background.
