A Survey Report On The Cultural Activitiesof Confucius Institute At University Ofkelaniya In Sri Lanka

Cultural activities are an important means for Confucius institutes to show Chinese culture to the world and establish Chinese cultural images.Therefore,the organization of high-quality cultural activities to achieve the best results has become an important subject for Confucius institutes.In this paper,the current cultural activities of Confucius Institute at University of Kelaniya are introduced,including the situation of Confucius Institute,background classification and process of cultural activities.And the process is divided into the formulation,implementation and acceptance.Correspondingly,the staff are classified into the decision makers,executives and audiences.Then,based on the above information,the situation of the cultural activities in University of Kelaniya is introduced,and questionnaire survey and interview are used to investigate the decision-makers,executors and audiences of the cultural activities of the Confucius institute.The contents of the survey are listed as follows:The process,starting point and difficulties for decision makers when formulating cultural activities;the cooperation between executors and local people,the difficulties and influencing factors in the implementation and the situation of executors;the audience's motivation to participate in cultural activities,their desire and channels of understanding Chinese culture and the change of their impression upon China after the participation in cultural activities.According to the survey results,the problems in the cultural activities in the Confucius Institute at University of Kelaniya have been found in the following aspects:the cultural activities are influenced by local customs;the links of review and feedback for cultural activities are absent;local objective conditions,such as poor infrastructure and the bad weather in wet-season limit the cultural activities;the motivation of the cultural activities and the need of the audiences are not balanced;the preferences of the audiences are not combined with cultural activities and the activities are usually held in old ways.In view of these problems,some corresponding suggestions are put forward: first,while adapting to local customs and traditions,a localized timetable should be established to guide the daily work of Confucius institute;the feedback of cultural activities should be paid attention to and the link of review should be added;unfavorable objective conditions should be actively responded to;the orientation of cultural activities should be combined with the needs and preferences of the audiences.
