Fluency of delivery is considered as one of the determining factors of interpretation quality.Too many disfluencies will lead to difficulties in understanding for audience and precise delivery of information. The thesis discusses disfluencies in English-Chinese consecutive interpretation, with the mock conference “The Economic Club of New York – Peter Thiel” as the case.Improper pauses(improper filled pauses, improper silent pauses)and self-repairs(repetitive information repairs,error-repairs,appropriateness-repairs)are the two major disfluency categories in the case. The causes of disfluencies in E-C consecutive interpretation are the conference factors and the interpreter's inadequacies. While only by obtaining more background knowledge, enhancing bilingual proficiencies and practicing more can interpreters avoid disfluencies in E-C consecutive interpretation as much as possible to achieve higher fluency of delivery. |
