In this dissertation we propose an alternative to improve the promotion of Chinese as a foreign Language in Latin America and other areas overseas, where the teaching of this language is usually carried out under the conventional face-to-face fashion, which is limited by space and time barriers. In this research, our target audience are Colombian and other Latin American students of Chinese, with a beginner level, who face a series of problems when attending their classes, which, according to what we noticed and consider, can be solved with a Task-Based Language Teaching(TBLT)approach. This approach will be carried out under a distance education mode where teaching materials suited for the students' interest are especially created, edited, shared and used through on line interaction channels. This work is composed of six chapters:Chapter 1(Introduction)presents the current situation of Chinese language teaching in Colombia and other countries form Latin America summarizing the work done in earlier research papers and dissertations on this field. It also introduces the main theoretical basis and principles of TBLT,exposes the characteristics of On-Line Distance Education applied to Chinese teaching and describes some of the most commonly used modes in this field. This chapter ultimately presents and briefly depicts our research objectives, target group and research methods. In chapter 2 a detailed report on beginner level students of Chinese from Colombia and Latin America is given, serving as an important source of information that will be later used in this research's teaching design and teaching execution stages. Thus,it presents our own survey results which reflect information on respondents' basic situation, study background in Chinese language, their main study purpouse and motivations, their points of view about On-line learning and the difficulties they have faced during their study process,as well as its other diverse aspects.Summarizing, this chapter provides important awareness on our target group?s ways of studying, motivations, studying needs and difficulties which will be useful data in the chapters that follow after.Chapter 3 constitutes this work?s general class design plan which encopaces aspects like “Teaching objectives”,“Teaching strategies”,“Educational media”,“Target audience” and “Teaching material” as its starting point.Setting TBLT as the core of our teaching strategy, using “Thinkific” –an online multichannel teaching platform-as the central mean of teaching interaction, describing our volunteering student's basic characteristics and presenting the main teaching material which is adapted to our teaching plan according to our teaching objectives….In short, this chapter explains the feasibility and the need for execution of this educational which is set on a strong theoretical basis and built under a comprehensive framework.Illustrating this research's teaching process pre-evaluation,practice and postevaluation phases, both Chapter 4 and 5 appear reflect the field work of this research. The fourth Chapter presents the detailed execution process of the different educational tasks and their activities, introduces the materials edited and created for this stage, describes the different ways teacher and students interacted and some other additional details. As for the fifth Chapter,it shows students? performance before and after taking part in this research and includes some of their impressions and feedback on this experience. Finally,in Chapter 6,we briefly explain this work's achievements, limitations and expectations towards future developments. After writing this dissertation we believe that with the gradual advance in international relations and exchanges as well as the rapid development in technology, more research on the field of Chinese teaching in Latin America is yet to increase in the years ahead. We hope the small effort and contribution reflected here in this work might constitute one more step in the spreading of Chinese as a foreign language in Latin America and the rest of the world.
