On The Translation Of The Nominalizations In Legal Works Under The Guidance Of Functional Theory

With the increasing informationization,legal exchanges between countries have become even more frequent.As legal instruments play an increasingly important role in the transmission of legal information,the quality of translation of legal works directly affects the accuracy and completeness of information transmission.Nominalization has the characteristics of objective neutrality and conciseness,so it is frequently used in legal English texts and is one of the important features of legal texts.How to convey the objective facts of nominalization to readers has become one of the important factors affecting the quality of legal discourse translation,thus it constitutes the objective of this translation report.This paper attempts to apply "functional equivalence" to the translation of legal English nominal structure.The nominal structure is concise and the semantic density is large.The relationship between structural components is complex and difficult to understand.The existing legal English translation is mostly a summary of practical experience,so it is necessary to find a suitable theory to study the nominal structure.Therefore,this report intends to use the "functional equivalence theory" to guide the legal English nominal structure translation.The most exact reciprocity with the original text effectively improves the quality of translation of Chinese translations of legal works.According to the specific context,based on the theory of functional equivalence,the author combines the translation practice and selects the appropriate translation method,so that the translation of nominal structure can achieve the same effect as that of original text.The translation is more in line with the Chinese based onThis translation practice report is divided into five parts: translation task description,translation process description,functional equivalence theory and translation of the nominal structure in legal English text,case analysis of the translation task and a summary of translation practice.The first part is the description of translation task,and introduces the background and significance of translation task of Chapter 10 of the American Law.The second part describes the pre-translation preparation work,the principles and strategies that should be grasped in the translation,and the post-translation review work.The three parts introduce the definition and classification of nominalization structure,and summarize the typical nominal structure characteristics in legal English discourse.Then it introduces the connotation of functional equivalence theory and its evolution process,reviewing the research status at home and abroad.Then the author expounds the applicability of functional equivalence theory to the nominal structure in legal texts.The fourth part is the main part of this report.The translator combines his own translation practice and analyzes the difficulties in the translation of nominalized structure from three levels: vocabulary,phrase and sentence.The translator uses specific translation strategies.It puts forward effective solutions to different translation difficulties,and strives to make the translation clear and natural,conforming to the language expression habits of the translated language,and it is easy to be understood and received by the reader to achieve the effect of functional equivalence.The last part summarizes this translation practice from both theoretical and practice perspectives with some relevant suggestions proposed.Through the translation cases,the translator aims to explain the problems and solutions encountered in the translation process.Therefore,this translation practice report will provide possible reference for the future legal translation practice in terms of theory and practice.
