Word-class Conversion In Informative Text-A Case Study On C-E Translation Of Provincial Forestry(Excerpts)

Conversion has always been a hot topic for translation experts and scholars at home and abroad.Most of the previous studies pay attention to English-Chinese translation,but the research in this paper focuses on Chinese-English translation in informative texts.The purpose of this paper is to summarize the linguistic characteristics of the original text,analyze its influence on translation and correctly handle the differences between Chinese and English.Moreover,illustrating the importance of conversion in the process of translation is,of course,the ultimate goal.Taking the C-E translation of excerpts of Chinese Forestry 2011-2015 as the case study,the author discusses the application of conversion in C-E translation of informative text.Firstly,the thesis introduces the definition of word-class conversion and its necessity in translation.Subsequently,based on the translation practice,the author subdivides the conversion of Chinese verbs,nouns,adjectives and adverbs.In view of the linguistic characteristics of the original text and the target text,the context and the conventional expressions of the translated language,attention should be paid to three aspects during the C-E translation of informative text:function,accuracy and readability.In light of the three aspects,translators are supposed to adopt word-class conversion flexibly to faithfully express the meaning of the original text and produce a smooth and accurate target text.The structure of this paper consists of four parts.The first part is a general introduction.The following part sets out a description of the translation process,while the third part is about word-class conversion and its specific case analysis.Lastly,the fourth part is a summary of the translation practice,including the major findings,limitations and suggestions.
