The Compilation And Collation Of Yang Xiong's Official Admonitions

Admonition is an ancient literary genre,originating from the"satirizing the king's faults".Yang Xiong was the first person to specialize in Admonition.Faced with the complicated political changes in the late Western Han dynasty and dissatisfied with the fact that cifu of that time was"full of flowery rhetoric but without allegory",he created a series of Admonitions.This thesis consists of five parts.Introduction elaborates the topic significance,research status,research methods and framework of the thesis.Chapter One is to compile and collate Yang Xiong's Official Admonitions based on Gu Wen Yuan,widely referring to Bei Tang Shu Chao,Yi Wen Lei Ju,Li Xian's Annotation of History of the late Han-Dynasity,Chu Xue Ji and so on.Predecessors'collating achievements since Ming and Qing dynasties are also absorbed.It could be found that synonyms account for a large proportion in the different texts of the Official Admonitions.Chapter Two probes into the forged articles of Yang Xiong's Official Admonitions.It could be found that each article of Yang Xiong's Official Admonitions is questionable except for Si-kong Admonition,Tai-chang Admonition,Shang-shu Admonition and Bo-shi Admonition.Yang Xiong's Official Admonitions have long been attached to the collections,encyclopedias and ancient annotations,saved as fragments,so we cannot prove the truth of the whole article.Chapter Three is to analyze about the citations from the Five Classics in Yang Xiong's Official Admonitions.Yang Xiong was one of the confucianists in the Western Han dynasty.In his Official Admonitions,he cited texts from Zhou)yi,Shangshu,Li,.Shijing and Chunqiu,making the Admonitions concise and euphemistic.Authority of the Five Classics also enhanced the persuasiveness of his opinion.It was an example of officials and scholars during the middle later of Western Han dynasty who were keen on citing classic,reflecting the influence of'the policy of governing the country by classics.Chapter Four is to analyze the spreading of single text in ancient China by the Official Admonitions of Yang Xiong.Some characteristics are offered such as being dependent on the collections or encyclopedias,attached to the ancient annotations,co-existence of full text and passages,referring to previous works and variant characters.
