The source text of the task is the Greek Nationality Code Amendment, voted by the Parliament in 2015.It mainly incorporates improvements to the granting of residence permits of non-EU citizens, aiming at attracting investment and accelerating domestic economic development. The original, written in frozen style, belongs to legal text.Passive sentences are extremely common in the source text. The differences between Chinese and English laws in expression as well as sentence structure make it a tough challenge for the author of the report(also the translator of the material). Therefore, the thesis took passive sentences as the object of study.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the author focused on finding appropriate strategies to solve the difficulties in translation. The main methods used in passive sentence translation include translating into active sentences, sentences without subject as well as passive sentences. The E-C translation of immigration law is mainly concentrated in the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries. There is no Chinese version of Greek immigration law at present. It is hoped that the translation experience gained by the author in this translation process can provide reference for legal English translation.
