A Practice Report On The E-C Translation Of Kenya:The Quest For Prosperity(Chapter Four)

This is a practice report on the E-C translation of Kenya: The Quest for Prosperity(Chapter Four).The author of the book is the American writer Norman N.Miller who is one of America's early African specialists.The fourth chapter,Modern Politics: The Moi Era,mainly describes Kenya's political situation in the Moi Era.This practice report mainly analyzes the translation problems and solutions in the process of translating the original text into Chinese.Chapter one introduces the background information and the significance of the translation task.Chapter two introduces the stylistic feature,lexical feature and syntactic feature of the source text.Chapter three describes the entire translation process,including translation preparations,translation process and translation revision.Chapter four analyzes the translation problems and solutions in detail.In the process of translation,the translator mainly discusses three translation problems: translation of culture-loaded words,choice of word meaning in political texts and the translation of sentences with parentheses,and also proposes corresponding solutions.The translator employs the translation methods of the combination of literal translation with annotation,semantic extension according to political context,and pre-position and post-position respectively to solve the problems above.With the help of above methods,the translator solves the translation problems encountered in the process of translation and completes the translation task.In chapter five,the last part of the paper,the translator summarizes the translation process and reflection.In the process of accomplishing the translation practice,the translator deepens her understanding of the above three translation problems by summarizing and reflecting on them,and applies several translation strategies in the process of solving the problems.And it has been proved effective in dealing with such kind of subject matters.It is expected to provide a feasible reference for the study of non-literary text translation and the translation of Kenyan politics.
