The source text of this translation practice report is the first chapter of Travels in the History of Architecture, which mainly introduces the characteristic, history and development of Egyptian architecture. The author Robert Harbison is a prestigious architect and historian, also a regular contributor to many architecture magazines. At present,it is rare to choose the translation of cultural relics and museology as the theme of translation practice reports. This translation practice can bring relevant information about Egyptian architecture to relevant scholars for reference, and it is hoped that more people can be encouraged to participate in the translation of cultural relics and museology. The translation practice report is composed of four parts: translation task description, translation process description, case analysis and post-translation summary. The first part briefly introduces the translation material and the author. The second part describes the whole translation process, mainly includes the pre-translation preparation, such as looking up relevant books and dictionaries, acquainting knowledge about Egyptian culture, religion and architecture. The third part is the most important part of this report.Based on specific translation cases, the translator analyzes the translation from three aspects—word, sentence and culture. The word aspect includes the translation of names of people and places and the treatment of nouns, and the main methods adopted are parenthesis annotation and selection and extension of word meaning. The sentence aspect includes the translation of long sentence, subordinate clause, inanimate subject sentence and passive sentence, and the main methods adopted are separation, reconstruction, and conversion. The culture aspect includes the translation of some sentences and words with special cultural background, and methods adopted are addition and parenthesis annotation. The last part, the post-translation summary,is the reflection of this translation practice. The translator summarizes the translation method and techniques of various sentences, especially the treatment of long sentences, clauses and passive sentences.
