Reading teaching is one of the important contents of primary school English teaching.The English curriculum standards for compulsory education(2011 edition)has made clear requirements for primary school reading at level 1 and level 2respectively.Therefore,under the background of the new curriculum reform,the reading teaching of primary school students should play its due role,in order to stimulate primary school students' interest in English reading and cultivate their independent reading ability.Q primary school in Qinhuangdao ranks top in the city,and it is the first primary school in the city to apply the textbook of "good English" in the reading class of primary school.Therefore,Q primary school is selected as the research sample.Through the analysis of the survey data,it is found that the application of model English textbook in primary school reading class has begun to take shape.Compared with traditional reading teaching,model English reading class plays a significant role in cultivating students' interest in reading,forming good reading habits and methods,and improving their independent reading ability.At the same time,in the later interviews with teachers and students,it is found that there are still some problems in the application of good English in primary school reading teaching: English reading materials are quite different,good English reading hours are tight,teachers' reading strategies are not mature,and evaluation methods after reading are simplified.Based on the analysis of the causes of the problems and the actual situation of Q primary school,the following improvement strategies are proposed: to understand the culture of English-speaking countries,broaden the horizon,arrange class hours reasonably,organize teachers to carry out teaching training,and expand multi-dimensional reading evaluation methods.According to the requirements of "reading" in English curriculum standards for compulsory education,this study conducts questionnaires and interviews with teachers and students,and finds out the problems through the observation of classroom records,so that the study can be more targeted and scientific.However,due to the limited knowledge reserve and ability of researchers,the proposed Suggestions may not be able to completely solve some problems,and further study and research are needed.
