It is discernable that there remains for a long time the endless interchanging of characters and words between China and Japan. The academic community always emphasizes particularly on the influence upon Japanese from Chinese characters and "Japanese words of Chinese origin" concerning the studies of homographic characters in Chinese-Japanese linguistics, however, the study of Japanese words of Chinese origin is less concentrated on the advantage of Chinese Characters when Japanese are utilizing Chinese Characters to express the new items transformed from western world. "Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese" is a portion of the studying of vocabulary, it is involved with history, geography, culture, sociology, linguistics, ethnology and translation etc. Although this, it is a pity that few remarkable accomplishments have been made with some aspects limited and even untouched. Furthermore, compared with the study of origin and influence of "Japanese words of Chinese origin", there are far less work on the origin of "Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese" and its influence upon other languages in cultural circle of Chinese character. In the regard, there were tremendous efforts are needed to make sense of some basic theories and achieve much more progress. It is of significance that we begin to explore the field of "Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese" which is seemingly little meaningful but cherishes valuable potentialities. We shall make up for unnoticed hermeneutic study of "Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese" and go farther in this field with the analysis of the results and the language materials . This is the focus work of my thesis.The thesis centers on the issue of how Chinese charactersword-formated by Japanese is generalized and of how they spread abroad. It is involved with the subjects of history and linguistics, providing some pavements to academic merits for some enthusiasts and juniors interested in this linguistic field. Within the diachronic dimension I use some study methods of history ( primarily;historic linguistics ) with synchronic annalistic method;and I gather widely relevant materials from such languages as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, English, I take full advantage of the four languages and keep a close track to a variation of geographical terms in Chinese, Japanese, Korean since 19 century. To sort out the evolution of Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese and their influence over other countries in cultural circle of Chinese characters, I compose a thesis for master degree titled "The origin of modern Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese and their influence over the languages of countries in cultural circle of Chinese characters —From the geographical terminology". The complete text divides into five chapters as follows:Chapter I : The origin of Chinese characters and their way of spreadChapter II: Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese prior to modern timeChapter III : The origin of modern Chinese characters word-formated by JapaneseChapter IV : Chinese acceptance of Chinese characters word-formated by JapaneseChapter V : Korean acceptance of Chinese characters word-formated by JapaneseIn addition, I generalize the definition and variation of Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese in the preface. In the end, the thesis makes a prosperous view over the future of Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese in the postscript.In conclusion, I attempt to expound on the origin and spread of Chinese characters word-formated by Japanese in the thesis. Since it is the first time I set foot in the field of linguistics, and there is indeed plenty of difficulties I shall come across, I will spare no effort to tackle with them.
