A Report On The E-C Translation Of Generation Us:The Challenge Of Global Warming (Excerpts)

This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the first two parts of Generation Us:The Challenge of Global Warming by Andrew Weaver,one of the top climate scientists in Canada.Through a series of experiments,data and charts on climate and environment,the has conducted a simple and comprehensive discussion on the complexity of global warming.Weaver clearly explains what global warming is.states that we should pay attention to global warming,and provides some solutions to the problems caused by global warming.This work aims to better people's understanding of global warming and draw people's attention to the phenomenon of global warming.The translation project helps to popularize the knowledge of climate and environment,rectify people's wrong cognition of global warming,enrich the knowledge base of climate and environment science and provide reference for the research of global warming.The original text of the project is a scientific text,which contains a large number of proper nouns,tenninology and long and difficult sentences,making the text difficult to translate.In the process of translation,the translator uses Newmark's text type theory to guide the translation practice.Taking into consideration the characteristics of informative texts and Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation,the writer of this report tries to make the target text not only convey the information of the original text,but also conform to the Chinese ways of expression by using such translation methods as the method of conversion,syntactic linearity,and so on.Through this translation project,the writer of this report has not only further realized the importance of pre-translation preparation for the whole translation project and translators'ability to apply translation theories and strategies to translation,but also strengthened her understanding of various disciplines.
