Report On Interpreting At The Jesse Eisenberg Book Event

This report is based on the author’s interpreting for the Jesse Eisenberg Book Event.Combining the features of liaison interpreting and interpreter’s subjectivity,this report analyzes the strategies and reflections of this practice.The report consists of four parts:1)Task description,which introduces the background,features,requirements,clients and audience of the event;2)Process description,including preparations for interpreting,the process of interpreting and comments from parties involved after interpreting;3)Case analysis,which introduces the features of liaison interpreting and interpreter’s subjectivity,and summarizes the typical strategies,their effects and reflections on the interpreter’s flaws during interpreting.The strategies include addition,omission,replacement and communicating with the speaker;4)Summary,where the author reviews the task and points out unsolved problems as well as the significance of this report.This report summarizes that the interpreter can enhance understanding by addition,respond to the speaker or the audience’s preference by omission,convey the speaker’s message more fluently or clearly by replacement,and timely communicate with the speaker to avoid information loss.It should be noted that the interpreter’s ability maintains the crucial part,while communicating with the speaker only serves as a last resort,or the audience may lose trust in the interpreter.In a word,the interpreter can actively promote communication in liaison interpreting.The author hopes that this report can provide references not only to herself,but also to other interpreters in similar scenarios.
