A Report On Liaison Interpreting For A Musical Saw Performer Participating In World’s Got Talent

As China deepens cultural and people-to-people exchanges with the rest of the world,Chinese TV programs become increasingly international.Performers from all over the world show cultural and personal charm on the Chinese stage.While foreign performers record programs,liaison interpreting is indispensable when foreign performers and the staff of the program cannot communicate with the same language.Under the guidance of Ren Wen’s researches on subjectivity consciousness,the author analyzes her practice of being a liaison interpreter for a musical saw performer participating in World’s Got Talent 2019 China in this paper.According to Ren Wen,the subjectivity consciousness includes the visibility consciousness,the empowerment consciousness,and the non-neutral standpoint.The author introduces the manifestation of the interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness,including in which roles,why,and how the author manifested the subjectivity consciousness.Interpreters were often regarded as “invisible people” and “conduit”.Through this paper,the author discusses the roles of interpreters,expecting to provide instructions for future interpreting.This report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is the process description,including pre-interpreting preparation,interpreting process,and post-task assessment.The second chapter is the analytical framework,which introduces the liaison interpreting and the interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness,as well as the threecomponents of the the interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness.The third chapter is the case study,in which the author analyzes the roles of the liaison interpreter,namely the gatekeeper,the co-interlocutor and mediator through specific cases.Meanwhile the author analyzes the manifestation of the interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness in the practice.In the fourth chapter,the author summarizes what she has learned from the practice and reflects on the disadvantages of the practice.In the conclusion part,the author summarizes points and limitations of this paper.
