With the development of economic globalization, economic and trade exchanges among China and the rest of the world have become more frequent, which depend on the exchange of laws among countries. Therefore, the translation of legal texts is of great significance, and the quality of its translation is directly related to whether economic and trade exchanges can go smoothly, which in turn will affect the development of China's foreign trade. This report aims to explore the methods and techniques of translating legal texts from English into Chinese by taking an English-Chinese translation of a shareholder's agreement as a case study.Based on the theory of functional equivalence, the author categorizes the original text of this translation project as an informative legal text through text categorization and analyzes the language features of the original text in detail. Finally, the author successfully completed the translation of the original text. This report introduces this process in detail, and combines the translation examples to summarize part of speech conversion that the author used in translation and the methods that the author used in translation of doublets and triplets and modal verbs from the lexical level. The author also summarizes the methods and techniques used in translation of long sentences, conditional sentences, and passive sentences in the original text from the sentence level and the cohesion approaches such as conjunction and reference which are useful for coherent and complete translation from the discourse level. Finally, the author hopes that the translation methods and techniques of the legal texts summarized in this report will provide reference for subsequent translators.
