Reading is a process of accumulating gradual progress.A person's English proficiency has a great correlation with English reading ability.In the actual elementary school English teaching,teachers are subject to the influence of traditional teaching system,teaching concept,teaching environment and other factors,and it is easy to neglect the cultivation of English reading ability in upper primary school students.In the long run,it is difficult for high school students to successfully read English texts on their own,and it is difficult to obtain a pleasant reading experience in English reading.At present,there are many challenges and difficulties in the English reading teaching in the upper primary school.To better implement the requirements of the new curriculum standards,it is the primary task to stimulate the English reading interest of the upper primary school students.A picture book refers to a type of children's books that are mainly based on pictures and supplemented by words to describe a complete story.In recent years,picture books have received extensive attention from domestic educators and have gradually become one of the curriculum resources in primary school English reading teaching.English picture books have a positive impact on stimulating students' reading interest and cultivating students' reading habits.How to effectively apply picture books to the upper primary English reading teaching is the main problem of this paper.This study uses case analysis,literature and questionnaires to study the application of picture books in the English reading teaching in the upper primary school.The paper is mainly divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction part,which introduces the research background,research significance,research methods,research status at home and abroad and the content framework of the thesis.The second part,combining the characteristics of English picture books and the characteristics of English reading in upper primary school students,discusses the application value of English picture books in primary school English readingteaching.The third part is mainly to carry out questionnaire surveys for the application of English teachers in the senior grades of primary school.According to the results of the questionnaire survey,the problems in the application of reading books in the primary school English reading are analyzed.The fourth part,the main problems found in the survey and combined with specific teaching cases,put forward the strategy of English picture book application in the English reading teaching in the upper primary school.The fifth part is the conclusion part,summarizing the conclusions of this study,reflecting on the shortcomings of the research,and looking forward to the future research.
