High-speech-rate is a most arduous challenge in simultaneous interpreting. This thesis chooses high-speech-rate's impacts on interpreters as the research object, tries to figure out the impacts of fast speeches on the performance of C-E simultaneous interpreting, and provides some practical strategies through the experiment in which 14 BFSU GSTI students are invited.Based on four perspectives(problem triggers)—expressions with Chinese characteristics, enumerations, high density of speech and number, the paper selects four kinds of source language materials. The author divides the materials into three parts which are played at normal and high speed respectively.Through the quantative analysis, the author finds that participants',performance changes with the speech rate.Specifically, the higher speed the speech is,the lower output ratio of primary information, accuracy rate and fluency are,and more fillers participants have. Moreover, participants are more likely to make grammatical mistakes at high speed. The negative impact of high speed on figure part is the most prominent.Based on the transcrips and interview, the author analyzes concrete examples in terms of output ratio of primary information, accuracy, expressions and so on.The author also puts forward a series of practical strategies to cope with high-speech-rate C-E simultaneous interpreting, such as expanding specialized vocabulary, deverbalizing, summarizing, using abbreviations and adjusting Ear-Voice Span(EVS).
