A Translation Project Report On The Unknown Hemingway(Chapters 6-8)

As a form of literary work,biographies provide a unique perspective for studying important historical figures and events.The development of today's society is changing with each passing day,and readers' reading needs for biographical literary works are also increasing.The translation of biographies as a carrier of cultural communication enables foreign readers to experience cultural diversity and promote exchanges between different cultures,thus enlightening readers.This thesis is a translation project report on Hemingway's biography.The translation material is from the work of the Cuban writer Enrique Cirules,The Unknown Hemingway,The original text revolves around Hemingway's life story from the 1930s to the 1960s,involving many historical events and complex political relations.Studies on Hemingway are countless.This translation project provides new material for studying Hemingway,and readers can get a fuller picture of Hemingway and his times.The original text mainly conveys information,narrates the Crook Factory that Hemingway established and the operation of pursuing German submarines,focusing on the authenticity of the content rather than the literariness.For the purpose of accurately conveying the content of the original text,the author starts from the perspective of vocabulary and syntax,and uses Newmark's communicative translation as the theoretical support,mainly discussing the application of translation theory and techniques in translation practice as well as the difficulties of biography translation,hoping to provide reference for translators.Through analysis,the author finds that a translator should become a generalist and meanwhile a specialist,and it is vital to collect background knowledge,that translation activities cannot be separated from the guidance of theory.With theoretical support,the original content can be conveyed in a true and effective manner.In the process of writing this thesis,the author realized insufficient knowledge reserve and limited ability of English-Chinese conversion.In the future,the author will try to translate different literary genres.
