A Report On Translation Of Tourist Texts

Pei County is the place where Han culture originated.Since 1996,Han Culture Festival has been held here every two years.During the festival,Liu's descendants from all over the country and overseas went to commemorate their ancestors.Its development of economy and prosperity of culture have also attracted foreign tourists to visit.In order to help more people from English-speaking countries have a profounder understanding of Chinese culture and Pei County,this report takes the English version of "Song of the Wind" as an example,with Susan Bassnett's cultural translation concept as a guide to figure out suitable English translation strategies for Chinese texts in cultural tourism.The translator uses literal and liberal translation approach to translate different types of culture-loaded words,and interpretation to translate cultural allusions,poems and couplets.Many renowned scholars in the translation field have further developed cultural translation concept.Based on their insightful views on "cultural turn" in translation,this report discusses the feasibility of applying specific translation techniques to the translation of Chinese texts in cultural tourism.The translator converts the four-character phrases in the original text into English adjectives and nouns.At the syntactic level,the translator transforms long and difficult sentences by adjusting the structural order and merging the effective information while translating.This paper takes full account of lingual distinctions between Chinese and English and employs adequate examples to prove the practicality of the translation.Finally,the author hopes this translation practice will contribute to the international development of tourism in Pei County,and will be regarded as a reference for future workers engaged in tourist translation.
