Under the background that the quality-oriented education develops vigorously in our country,appreciation education has been pushed to a climax.Educators also pay more attention to the impact of appreciation on students' development.Appreciation education originally appeared in the form of family education,and now it is applied in teaching by a large number of scholars with remarkable results.As high school students are facing great academic pressure and need more attention and encouragement from teachers,English,as an international common language,runs through all stages of our education and occupies an important position.However,many students lack confidence and interest in English learning.Therefore,the author attempts to apply appreciation education in senior high school English classroom teaching in order to improve students' interest,confidence and motivation in English learning and thus improve their academic performances.In this study,under the guidance of Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory and Rosenthal's expectation effect theory and referring to the research results of many scholars,the author conducted an empirical study on the application of appreciation education in Harbin No.3 High School,which lasted one term.The subjects of the study consist of 63 students from Class two Grade three and also 6 teachers get involved.Through the questionnaires and interviews,the author recorded and analyzed the teachers' understanding and attitudes towards the appreciation education and the students' changes after the application of appreciation education.This research mainly explore the current situation of the application of appreciation education in high schools,how to apply appreciation in an appropriate way and the influence of appreciation education on students.Through this empirical study,the author proves that appreciation education can help students to improve their interest in English learning,improve their learning confidence,enhance their learning motivation,stimulate their learning potential and further improve their learning grades.It also proves the effectiveness and feasibility of the application of appreciation education in high school English classroom teaching.In this paper,the author puts forward some methods of how to apply appreciation education,and at the same time finds some problems that may occur in the process of implementing appreciation education and matters needing attention.Therefore,some suggestions are put forward for reference in the end of this paper,hoping that the majority of scholars can further study appreciation education and teachers can better apply appreciation education in teaching,so that it can play its maximum role to improve teaching effect and give full play to students' potential.
