| This report selects the Oxford Handbooks of Political Science: The New Liberalism(Chapter 33)as the source text.This chapter mainly introduces the various assumptions and the latest development trends of New Liberalism.The book is an academic text with a more formal style and a high degree of professionalism and the language expression is logical with long sentences.In the process of translation,we should try to translate the source text in a concise way for readers to better understand.In accordance with the characteristics of information-based texts,this paper should adopt the method of communicative translation,highlighting the content of textual information,and not constraining the semantics and sentence structure of the original text,so as to achieve the purpose of communication.That is to say,in the process of translation,the translation needs to be faithful to the original text,but it does not have to be too rigidly attached to the syntax,vocabulary,form and cultural factors of the source language.In the process of this translation practice,the main problem encountered by the translator is the translation of dashes.The report will analyze how to translate complicated sentences with dashes and compare different ways of translation: whether to use dashes in the target language or change it into other punctuation like comma,colon or bracket;whether we add conjunctions or split the long sentence into short sentences;what translation theory we need to choose when translating the text and how to put it into practice so that we can solve the problem of translating complicated sentences with dashes.Through the translation practice and writing of the report,the translator realizes that it is not easy to translate this academic text,especially that there are details that may easily be ignored.I hope that in combination with the translation problems I have encountered,I can propose a solution to provide a reference for translators who translate such texts in the future. |
