A Practice Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of A Bite Of China

I participated in a translation program of Chinese diet culture organized by Wang Yuanrong, I was in charge of translating the first two chapters of A Bite of China II. I completed the task, at the same time I learned a lot form it. My translation practice report is the introduction, analyses and summary of the whole translation process and performance.This report consists of five major parts, including task description, process description,preparation for translation, case analyses and summary. Task description is a simple description of the task source, it includes the introduction, the requirements and the performance. Process description gives an introduction about several translating stages,including accepting task, preparing and translating. Preparation for translation gives a detailed description of the preparation work, including the analyses of the original, principles and strategies of cultural translation, analyses of parallel texts and study on relevant videos,preparation of reference books and delineation of cultural words. Case analyses is the core part of this practice report. Combined with specific cases, I analyze how I used translation skills to meet the following two translation requirements: first, to convey the ideas, contents of the original faithfully and smoothly and be faithful to its style; second, to make sure the smooth transform of cultural information. Summary generalizes the whole translation procedure and summarizes my experience of translating cultural text.“Cultural translating” plays an important role in the whole course. Only a thorough understanding of the original and full adoption of translation skills can the cultural information carried by the original be fully transformed to the target language text.
