Translation Report On Standard Practice For The Selection Of Spacecraft Materials

With the exploration of space missions,the selection of spacecraft materials should be more rigorous and prudent,so the Chinese government encourages the conversion of international standards.In the report,E1997-15: Standard Practice for the Selection of Spacecraft Materials that is issued by American Society for Testing and Materials is the source text and the translation of technical neologisms in the aerospace field is analyzed.The syntactic,lexical and stylistic characteristics of the source text are examined first,and the translation is guided by the Newmark's theory of semantic translation and communicative translation.In the report the focus is on translation methods of technical neologisms in aerospace by case analysis,which summaries six major methods: literal translation,free translation,transliteration,restoration,division and zero translation,and puts forward the corresponding translation principles,namely authenticity,monosemy and acceptability to provide a reference for the translation of technical terms in the future.
