English homework is a basic part of English teaching,which plays an indispensable role in consolidating the knowledge taught by teachers in class.It is also a part of teaching evaluation,which is good for teachers to grasp students' learning situation.Therefore,English homework plays a significant role in both teachers' teaching and students' learning.The purpose of this study is to understand the current situation of primary school English homework and existing problems in English homework,to better improve the English teaching and promote curriculum reform.Therefore by summarizing the researches of English homework in primary schools at home and abroad and basing on humanism theory,constructivism theory and multiple intelligence theory,this study applies questionnaire and interview.The author distributes questionnaires to 144 students from two ordinary primary schools in Nan Chong Sichuan Province and interviews with 6 teachers and 12 students respectively.The study aims to answer the following two questions: 1)What is the current situation of primary school English homework ? 2)What problems exist in primary school English homework?The major research findings are as follows: 1)In general,the students' attitude towards English homework is relatively positive,and the amount and difficulty of English homework are also acceptable among the students;Some students do some extra-curricular tasks after school.2)The design of assignment is monotonous and boring,ignoring the individual differences of students;The type and source of homework are relatively narrow,and the training form is too simple;Some students can not do their homework independently and dislike homework.Basing on the above findings,the author puts forward some suggestions,such as the layered and diversified English assignment should be designed;the types and content of English homework should be interesting to the students;teachers could enrich the types of homework and parents should take part in students' homework.There are some shortcomings in this study: First,the number of subjects is small and they may not represent all the pupils in other areas.Second,the survey tools used in the study are limited,and not all the questions in the questionnaire are specific and reasonable enough.Third,the analysis of the results of the survey is not thorough enough.Future researches should expand the number of subjects in more schools and use more specific and science questions.
