A Practice Report On Escort Interpreting For A Visit To Live Forgiven Church In The U.S.

Globalization has been a great concern for the world all the time and the trendy theme for global development.As people's livelihood is improving,an increasing number of Chinese people step out and see this big world.Through an exchange program in her school,Zhang Xiaoxia,a Chinese teacher from China,went to the U.S.for exchange on education and a visit to a local school there.In order to let Miss Zhang better learn about US culture,as the American coordinator,English teacher Curtis arranged for a visit to a local Christian church.During the trip,Curtis showed Zhang around in the church and struck upon a conversation about education in China and America.And the author served as the interpreter in the trip.The communication mainly consists the layout,function and history of the church as well as the secondary education systems of both countries.This thesis is based on the practical interpreting on cultural exchange,analyzing the mistakes and deficiencies existing in the translation.Therefore,we could derive something useful from the experience.The task is mainly about a visit to an American Christian church and Sino-US exchange on secondary education in the church.The thesis is made up of four parts,namely introduction to the task,task description,case analysis and conclusion.Case analysis,as the main part of the thesis,is focused on the mistakes and deficiencies as well as the translation techniques the writer has applied to the interpreting.Also,the author sums up the experience from it.And the deficiencies mainly came from the insufficient understanding of the source language,the failure to capture the key information and abuse of fillers.In addition,the author applied anticipation,omission,paraphrase and other interpreting strategies in his interpreting to cope with certain difficulties.Through the interpreting practice,the author has a new understanding towards interpreting: Apart from good English proficiency and interpreting skills,it also requires an exceptional interpreter to have a calm state of mind;at the same time,an interpreter is supposed to respect the religious culture and interpret the words literally in a religious interpreting.
