Research Of Overlapping Words In The Modern Chinese Dictionary (7th)

Overlap is an important means in terms of word formation and configuration.There are many words in modern Chinese that are overlapped.As a medium-sized and Chinese-language dictionary,Modern Chinese Dictionary can reflect the general appearance of vocabulary more comprehensively and objectively.Therefore,we use Modern Chinese Dictionary as the entry point for observing the overlapping words of modern Chinese,using the 7^th Modern Chinese Dictionary which includes overlapping words to examined the study subjects.The first chapter is the introduction part that introduces the research object and research significance of this paper and sorts out the research results of the predecessors.The research methods of this paper are also pointed out in this part.The second chapter introduces the overview of the overlapping words in the Modern Chinese Dictionary.Firstly,overlapping words are investigated and classified from the formal point of view.As for the number of syllables,overlapping words can be divided into two-syllable overlapping words,three-syllable overlapping words and four-syllable overlapping words.In terms of structure,overlapping words can be divided into AA,AAB,BBA,AABB,AABC and ABCC.It also screens for the existence of other simple forms of overlapping words of various structural types.Secondly,the overlapping words are studied from the perspective of the distribution of semantics.The chapter analyzes and examines the semantic distribution types of overlapping words based on Su Xinchun’s Modern Chinese Classification Dictionary.The semantics of the overlapping words included in the Modern Chinese Dictionary mainly focus on the nature and status,followed by the biological activities.This has a certain relationship with the majority of adjectives and the nature of description of the overlapping.The third chapter analyzes the word formation and configuration of overlapping words.The overlapping words in this part are mainly for the examination of overlapping words with basic forms and basic forms.It is found that the overlapping words included in the Modern Chinese Dictionary do not all come from the overlapping of word formation,but some come from the overlap of configuration.The are 670 words of word formation,which can be divided into phonetic overlap and morpheme overlap.There are about 50 words of configuration,which can be noun overlap,verb overlap,adverb overlap and adjective overlap.The basic form of configuration is included in the dictionary,which means having the status of a common word.It is one of the ways of the formation of modern Chinese words that the form of configuration evolves into an independent word.The fourth chapter examines the overlapping words in the Modern Chinese Dictionary from the perspective of history.Firstly,the first use cases of overlapping words are analyzed,and the historical stages of overlapping words are investigated,and then the characteristics of overlapping words in each historical stage are analyzed.Furthermore,the diachronic structure of overlapping words is investigated.The first part examines the overlapping words of AA syllables,finding that the unexplained words or the items in the Modern Chinese Dictionary have an interpretation but are not related to the meaning of the overlapping words.Some words are existential,and some A and AA meanings are related,but only morpheme to syllable changes occur,which is a morpheme overlap.The other part is that the word from the generation to the modern,has always been a syllable,which exists in an overlapping form and belongs to the overlapping of speech.The second part examines the relationship between the meanings of basic form and the three-syllable and the four-syllable overlapping words.It is found that there are some words which don’t exist baisc form in the Modern Chinese Dictionary have basic form in the Chinese Dictionary.For the above situation,the author found that some words with basic form have no meaningful connection with the basic form,while others have extended meaning on the basis of the basic meaning,which belongs to word formation.However,there are only some grammatical changes between the basic form and other words,which belong to the structure of the configuration.
