This is an English-Chinese translation report on the book The Class written by Heather Won Tesoriero,a reporter at Time,Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal.Through spending one year with Andy Bramante and his science research students, the writer of the book recorded more than seventy hours of interviews, conversations, and presentations and then wrote this book, which has a lot of details about the students involved in Andy’s science class and their high-level research projects. This work reflects the reasons for the success of Andy’s class, which plays an important role in learning about the advanced teaching and learning mode of science class in America. The first five chapters are selected as experts for the English-Chinese translation practice and the translation report. This report will elaborate on the translation process, which includes translation preparation, translation difficulties, and corresponding translation methods and techniques.First of all, based on Katharina Reiss’ s text type, the source text belongs to an informative text, which aims to convey information and facts and its language is highly professional and logical.During the translation practice, the translator encountered some difficulties and classified them into difficulties at the lexical level and syntactic level, and then took different methods and techniques to solve different difficulties, which is the focus of the report. For example,as for the idioms, free translation is adopted to illustrate some contents or backgrounds which are unfamiliar to the target readers. In terms of the polysemous words, tactical diction is applied to ensure that the translation is accurate.techniques like amplification and semantic extension are adopted to make a qualified translation. As a narrative report on science class, the source text has plenty of long sentences and sentences with passive voice, which increase the difficulty for translation. To solve these syntactic difficulties, sentence restructuring, division, and change of voices are adopted. The translator has acquired a lot from the translation practice. In order to better understand the source text,it is necessary for the translator to learn about relevant background knowledge and master extensive information about science.Meanwhile,by using translation techniques, the translator improves the ability to convey the original meaning of the source text to the target readers accurately and completely and hopes to provide practical references for the future translation.
