A Report On The E-C Translation Practice Of Exploring Translation Theories (Chapters 1-2)

In recent years,translation theories have developed rapidly,and the translation of foreign translation theories will play a certain role in promoting the study of translation theories in China.This is a translation report on the book Exploring Translation Theories written by Anthony Pym.The source text is an academic work of translation theories,which falls into informative text.The translation should be accurate,plain and clear,and the translator should adopt means of compensation when necessary,such as annotation and explicitation.The translator should ensure the accuracy and the consistency of the Chinese translation of academic terms,proper nouns and chapter titles.By referring to relevant literature,the author determines the Chinese translation of academic terms,proper nouns and chapter titles,and makes English-Chinese comparison tables of terms and proper nouns.In the process of translation,the author mainly deals with the problems at levels of word and sentence.For some words that appear many times in the source text,the author makes comprehensive studies and selects the proper meanings of the words in the context.For academic terms and some proper nouns,in-text and out-text annotations are adopted respectively on the basis of the already determined translated names,so as to provide more sufficient information.For some special words,the author adopts the method of explicitation.At the sentence level,the author makes the translation more coherent and easier to understand by changing the subject,achieving the cohesion between sentences and splitting or reconstructing the long sentences.Through this translation practice,the author has accumulated some experience in academic translation and also found his own shortcomings.This translation practice will play a role of reference for the future translation of similar texts.
