This translation practice is based on Exploring Translation Theories, which is a piece of academic work on western translation theories and research methods written by international famous translation theorist Anthony Pym.It was published by Routledge in early 2010.The translator undertook the task of translating the sixth chapter of this book,Uncertainty, and took this part as the translation material for this translation report.Practice and theory are inseparable.Applying Skopos theory of German functionalist school as the theoretical guidance, the translator analyzed typical cases in translation from the lexical level, syntactic level, textual level and cultural level, and solved the problems encountered in translation process. The core concept of Skopos theory is that the translator's translation strategy must be determined by the intended purpose or function of the translation. The source text of this translation practice is academic work with strong specialty and rigorous terminology. The purpose of the translation is to enable the target readers to have the same understanding and reading experience as the original readers do.Therefore, the combination of domestication and foreignization is adopted in translation strategies.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, appropriate translation methods to solve the problems encountered are mainly adopted, including word meaning extension, annotation, voice transformation and so on.During the process of this translation practice, the translator has consolidated her translation skills, strengthened the sense of teamwork, recognized her shortcomings and weaknesses, which laid a solid foundation for her future work.In addition, the translator hopes that the translation of this book can provide a reference for some translation enthusiasts and practitioners.
