In recent years, with the improvement of China’s comprehensive national strength and the enhancement of China’s participation in international affairs, the political speeches of Chinese leaders have attracted wide attention from the international community. This kind of speech is rigorous and expressive,so interpreters usually come across some culture-loaded words and long and difficult sentences. These kinds of expressions will bring some burden to interpreters’ understanding and expression. On account of different culture and linguistic features in China and the West, the majority of Chinese culture-loaded words and long and difficult sentences cannot be interpreted word for word.It requires interpreters to pay attention to the core meaning rather than the form of the original language and make flexible adjustment.Based on the Interpretive Theory, this thesis analyzes two important conference speeches of President Xi Jinping in 2017 and 2018,and studies the interpreting strategies of culture-loaded words and long and difficult sentences.Through the research, the author finds that linguistic culture-loaded words and social culture-loaded words often appear in these two conference speeches of President Xi Jinping.Due to the difficulties caused by Chinese idioms, allusions, figurative meaning, extended meaning and unique stylistic characteristics,it is difficult to interpret linguistic culture-loaded words. While, social culture-loaded words are closely related to China’s policies, politics, historical events and social environment, ect. This kind of words are unique. Therefore, the author mainly studies these two kinds of words and summarizes two interpreting strategies: literal and free interpretation.Literal interpretation can be used for words with common characteristics between the target language and the source language. While, free interpretation can be chosen for the words that have great differences between thetarget language and the source language or the source language has profound cultural connotations.Chinese sentences pay attention to parataxis and have loose structure.Instead,English sentences focus on hypotaxis and have strict logical structure. The structural differences between the two languages are evident in long and difficult sentences. And,some problems often occur in Chinese long and difficult sentences, like multiple parallel modifiers, multiple coordinate predicates, many parallel sentences and component deficiency.Aiming at the features of long and difficult sentences, this thesis summarizes corresponding interpreting strategies according to the Interpretive Theory: composition conversion, division, combination, shifting, amplification and voice conversion. The author hopes that the research on culture-loaded words and long and difficult sentences in simultaneous interpretation under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory can improve my interpreting skills and further provide some reference value for interpreters on these two problems,so as to improve the quality of interpretation.
