Through the simulated interpretation practice of a series of addresses by President Xi,the author sums up some features employed in his addresses, such as plain language, amiable tone and so on.These features used to make his addresses more vivid and more people-friendly and can boost foreign exchange and establishment of national image. The vague language is an obvious feature in his address;therefore, interpreters need to have a solid professional basis and rich extra-linguistic knowledge so that they can deliver the sense and idea of source language properly.Interpretive theory is the first theory to guide interpretation teaching and practice, and it stresses that the interpretation target is “sense”.The long-term practice has proved that this theory is scientific and authoritative, and thus this report takes interpretive theory as its guidance and takes the corpus of simulated interpretation of the address which was delivered by President Xi Jinping in the opening ceremony of B20 Summit.By analyzing the ways of interpreting vague language, this report tries to find out the skills which can make the interpretation much more accurate and fluent.Based on the examples of the project, this report comes up with five interpreting skills of vague language: eliminating redundancy, fusion, explanation, literal interpretation and conversion,in the hope that it can provide a reference for further study.
