English course is an important part of the curriculum system of higher vocational colleges, and it plays an important role in improving students’ "professional ability" and employment competitiveness. Therefore, based on "professional ability",this study further analyzes the current situation of English courses in higher vocational colleges and explores the countermeasures of English curriculum reform in higher vocational colleges. This study has important theoretical and practical significance for further improving the employment rate of higher vocational college students and promoting the future sustainable development of such institutions.Through the literature research and the empirical investigation research, this study adopts three different questionnaires: "Higher Vocational English Curriculum Status Questionnaire(Student)","Employer Interview Outline" and "Higher Vocational English Teacher Interview Outline" to investigate the current situation of English curriculum objectives, curriculum content and implementation, curriculum management and curriculum evaluation of higher vocational colleges. And the data is processed with SPSS 20.0.This research aims to improve students’ "professional ability" from the following four aspects:Firstly, through the literature research, this paper has a review of the existing related researches, and the definition and connotation of "professional ability" and "professional ability system" are redefined in this paper. It is pointed out that “vocational ability” in higher vocational education should include “basic abilities”,“professional competence” and “key capabilities”.Secondly, the paper investigates and analyzes the current situation of English courses in vocational colleges and finds that the current English teaching in higher vocational colleges can not highlight the characteristics of English teaching in higher vocational colleges.Teaching method in the organization and implementation of English courses is too simple. There are many problems in the construction of curriculum leadership and the practical reform of the course content. In curriculum evaluation, the evaluation method is single, pay more attention to knowledge than to competence.Thirdly, the paper analyzes the problems and reasons of English courses in higher vocational schools from four perspectives: schools, teachers, students and employers.Fourthly,it discusses the adjustment and reform paths of English courses in higher vocational colleges and points out that the reform of English teaching in higher vocational colleges should aim at cultivating "applicability" and improving students’ "professional ability",from colleges,English teachers and employers. To colleges, reforms should be implemented from three aspects: curriculum design, curriculum objectives and curriculum evaluation. To English teachers, they should focus on curriculum implementation, especially the teaching methods of English courses and the applied reforms of English courses. At employers’ level, employers should properly connect with universities timely and promptly feedback their various needs for talents.Aiming at improving students’ “professional ability”,this paper studies the situation, problems and causes of problems in vocational English courses, and on this basis, puts forward the reform countermeasures of higher vocational English curriculum. This study not only further supplements the relevant theories of English courses in higher vocational colleges, but also has important practical guiding significance for the reform of English teaching in higher vocational colleges.
