A Study Of The Relationship Of Middle School Students' Bird's Nest Drawing And Attachment And Personality

The Bird's Nest Drawing(BND;Kaiser,1996)is a single drawing art therapy assessment developed as a projective measure of attachment security.It has been supplementing and revising since developed and shows great application prospect.But the Bird's Nest Drawing still in its infancy and there is no relevant literature in China.In order to study the traits of adolescents'bird's nest drawings in China.This study take grade seven students as samples,I tested the interrater reliability of the Bird'Nest Drawing.And compared the drawings'traits with the ATM(the attachment to mother),a subscale of the IPPA which was used in Kaiser's(1996)original study.In addition,the ATF(attachment to father)was included originally in the comparison,and the relationship between the Bird's Nest Drawing and personality traits(EPQC).Attachment and personality traits was added to collect more comprehensive information about Bird's Nest Drawing and explore the relationship between Bird's Nest Drawing and Attachment,Personality.The results are as follows:The interrater reliability of the 14 indicators which Kaiser presented in 2016 is insufficient.The three raters internal consistency reliability is in turn:”One of more birds are depicted”0.773,,”An environment is included”0.6714,The interrater reliability is medium.”A bird family is included”0.525,”Four or more colors are used in the drawing”0.479,”Green is the dominate color in the drawing”0.450,”The BND story is coherent AND contains mostly positive themes”0.488,”The BND story is either incoherent OR includes mostly negative themes,or BOTH”0.478.The reliability of these factors is general.”There are restarts,erasures,or areas crossed out”was self-reported,raters did not score,other factors reliability is low or no reliability.The level of intra-group attachment varies greatly,and typical introversion and emotional instability account for a high proportion in personality traits.Compared with ordinary students,The Left-behind Students had a lower proportion of"There are unusual,bizarre,incoherent,or disorganized elements or approaches"x~2(1,n=280)=5.161,P<0.05.While a higher proportion of"eggs without birds"x~2(1,n=280)=4.188,P<0.05,Achieve significant,that is,the bird's nest drawings of the ordinary students have"There are unusual,bizarre,incoherent,or disorganized elements or approaches"was higher than the left-behind students;while"eggs without birds"was lower than left-behind students.There is no significant difference in attachment and personality between left behind students and ordinary students.Chi-square analyses were calculated to test the differences in frequencies between the BND items and ATM.Two characteristics are significant:”The nest lacks a bottom,such that it appears the contents might fall out”x~2(1,n=280)=7.447,p<0.05."There are unusual,bizarre,incoherent,or disorganized elements or approaches"x~2(1,n=280)=12.392,p<0.01.According to the corresponding cross-tabulation,the frequency of these two characteristics was higher in the low mother attachment group than in the high mother attachment group.Chi-square analyses were calculated to test the differences in frequencies between the BND items and ATF.x~2(1,n=249)=10.173,p<0.01 reached significance.According to the corresponding cross-tabulation,respondents with low father attachment appeared"There are unusual,bizarre,incoherent,or disorganized elements or approaches"more frequency than those of high father attachment.In the chi-square analysis of the relationship between BND and personality,only two significant characteristics were found in the dimension of emotional stability:”There are restarts,erasures,or areas crossed out”x~2(1,n=248)=3.953,P<0.05.”Composition deviates from paper center”corrected by fisher because the expected frequency is less than 1,,P<0.05.According to the cross-tabulation,the students with emotional instability had more frequent”There are restarts,erasures,or areas crossed out”than those with emotional stability,while the students with emotional instability had lower”Composition deviates from paper center”than those with emotional stability.Chi-square analysis of the relationship between attachment and personality showed that only students with very unstable emotions got significant in ATF,x~2(1,n=233)=4.239,P<0.05.According to the corresponding cross-table,the proportion of unstable emotional in students with lower father attachment was higher than those with higher father attachment.Data show that adolescents'bird's nest drawing and attachment,bird's nest drawing and personality,attachment and personality have some relationship,but not significant.
